I’m intrigued to watch Google News results become more bizarre with time. As Danny Sullivan tweeted recently:

those quality news sites with great play in google news

Danny’s point may have been the oddly misleading headline at BetaNews: “MySpace integrates with Facebook, ending social networking wars.” (If you think the social networking wars are over, you missed a lot.) But, the trouble with Google News runs much deeper.

Jacob Weaver writes today:

This is a business card that I found in an old briefcase. My search for this company lead me to your site.
The suite looks like it may have been occupied by a different tenant in 2001 but I thought maybe you would like the info anyway.

Jacob is referring to my work at UnBlinking, documenting web searches for businesses in the New York World Trade Center when the towers came down on 11 Sep 2001.

Rockmelt Turtles

A new browser called RockMelt is crushing itself out of the gate. The introductory video for Rockmelt (also available on the Rockmelt site) repeatedly details activities at “Moorhead’s Scottish Pub” — including the despicable notion of turtle racing. This horrifying blunder, from a browser designed to provide some sort of personal social media platform?

Seeking Sex Spam

A friend recently pointed out a Facebook page for the Kalamazoo Ballet Historical Building Fund.

I wanted to see more images of the building, so I ran a quick Google search on the unquoted terms historic Kalamazoo Ballet and Bullard Academy. The first five results are as expected: a Manta business profile, their own website, a Wikipedia entry for Kalamazoo, and local news items. The sixth entry is freaky: Free Sugar Daddy & Sugar Baby Dating in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

Free Sugar Daddy & Sugar Baby Dating in Kalamazoo, Michigan
Kalamazoo is also home to the Kalamazoo Ballet Company,
... Bullard School of Ballet and Highland Dance, founded in 1969
by Therese Bullard, .... [11] North Burdick St. in 1908 Academy St.
in 1908 Old public library in 1908 Paper mills in 1908 ....
Closer to the city center are historical residential areas such as ... - Cached

Huh? How does a site focused primarily on hooking up call girls with generous benefactors rate near the top entries for some historic building in Kalamazoo? It’s simple: Seeking Arrangement is scamming Google. Hard.
